How to Identify Scammers
Red flags to watch out for
Common Scam Warning Signs
Unrealistically Low Prices
If a price seems too good to be true, it likely is. Scammers often use very low prices to attract victims quickly.
Pressure to Act Quickly
Scammers create urgency ('many people interested', 'must sell today') to rush you into making a decision without proper checks.
Refusal to Meet in Person
Legitimate sellers are usually willing to meet. Be suspicious if they insist on shipping only or avoid meeting.
Payment Before Delivery
Never pay for an item before receiving it, especially via wire transfer, gift cards, or cryptocurrency.
Poor Quality Photos
Blurry photos, stock images, or images that don't match the description are warning signs.
New or Suspicious Accounts
Check when the account was created. Very new accounts with few listings can be red flags.
Poor Communication
Generic responses, poor grammar (though not always a sign), or inability to answer questions about the item.
Asking for Personal Info
Be wary of sellers asking for unnecessary personal details like bank account numbers or social security numbers.
